Kitchen Sales to New Build Developments Grow

The report, published by JKMR, shows that in 2007 a little over a third of all kitchens sold in the UK went directly to new housing developments or housing refurbishment programs. The report concludes that this shift is due largely to the UK's current housing crisis which is seeing demand for properties far outstripping supply, forcing housing associations to refurbish older properties and allowing developers to build new houses and flats in sought after areas.

The report also reveals how the Contract Sector has changed over the past ten years, with large kitchen manufacturers no longer being asked to provide kitchen appliances for new developments in favour of sourcing the goods from local trade suppliers.

This trend is predicted to continue over the coming years with trade suppliers increasing their share of the Contract Sector market to the detriment of large kitchen manufacturers, affecting both potential profit for direct supply manufacturers and the overall structure of the UK kitchen industry.
