KBSA Website Goes Accessible

The Kitchen Bathroom & Bedroom Specialists Association have launched a new range of Accessible Kitchens for disabled customers and announced that their website will also be fully web accessible, offering a better browsing experience for the disabled and visually impaired.

Barbara Leech is corporate chair of the KBSA. She commented:

"Accessibility and inclusive design are very important issues for our industry as 10% of today’s population has varying degrees of disability and by 2020 half the adult population will be aged over 50"

The updated website, which features improved navigation, increased reliance on textual content and fully annotated images, offers a new section dedicated entirely to Accessible kitchen design. Accessible kitchens, much like showroom kitchens, offer modern and desirable storage solutions for the home, but with easy to reach, easy to use white goods and specially modified work areas.

Describing the new section of the KBSA website, Barbara said:

"This area has been developed in association with KBSA member Design Matters and contains advice on furniture, fittings and appliances as well as practical tips"

Although traditionally a service only offered by niche and specialist shops, accessible kitchen design is starting to become more mainstream with some brand name kitchen showrooms stocking a small range of items.
